Digitise my music…Yay or Nay???

I’ve been thinking about shelling out for a Spotify premium account.

I’ve always spent money on music – tapes, vinyl, CDs…i’m an album hoarder. I buy albums that I really rate and like to own the physical copy.

I favour owning physical copies for two reasons; Firstly for my own collection, I like the idea of dusting them all off when i’m a grumpy old man and showing people what ‘real’ music once sounded like. Secondly, because I used to think I owed the artist at least that in cash. But…now the industry has changed – music is no longer where the money is, artists earn most of their big bucks from touring, live shows and endorsements…blah blah blah.

If I go digital it’s a choice between two: iTunes Vs Spotify. If I brought music through iTunes I would obviously own the music but then have the added issue of storing it.

At the moment i’m leaning towards shelling out £10 a month on a Spotify premium account. That’s the equivalent of about one CD I suppose. The benefits of this being…

  • Unlimited listening access to tonnes of music
  • I can create loads of playlists and easily link to them
  • I can fill my iPhone with music and make it available offline
  • It’s much quicker and easier to manage and find new music
  • I can listen to my music on whatever machine I log my account into
  • I don’t have the ass ache of syncing my iPod and storing all the music files on a computer that I don’t own (I use my work laptop atm)

Anyone else made a decison on this recently? What do you think?

Shaun White: We are not worthy

Two videos; one of the most ridiculous half pipe that Red Bull made for Shaun White and another showing his new trick that he pulled out at the Olymipcs. He had already won at the Olympics so had nothing to lose, he decides to pop a Tomahawk in there for laughs, that’s a Double McTwist 1260.

Did you know 4.0

This is a cool and quite powerful video, found it via a colleague in the US. Demonstrates the massive shift in media consumption that we’re currently part of.

Information is Beautiful

As a lover of infographs, and people who represent data in creative ways,  this site (informationisbeautiful.net) is right up my street. I particularly like this visualisation, showing what China sensors online.

The Hype: Apple iPad

I don’t claim to be an avid Apple fan, although I have owned numerous iPods and currently use an iPhone which i’ve been very impressed by. However, like many people, my curiosity and liking of gadgetry tech drew me towards the events that were to be announced yesterday night by Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs.

In case you haven’t already heard (most have!), Apple have announced the release of a new product, the ‘iPad’. It’s expected that it will be released in the UK June or July time. There’s still lots of people wondering what exactly it is/does, hence me writing this post.

What is it?

Apple say…

“Our most advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary device at an unbelievable price”

On first impressions you could mistake the iPad for an oversized iPhone. Apple are aiming to gain market share from the likes of netbooks (those underpowered mini laptops) and Ebook readers already on the market such as Amazon’s Kindle.

I wrote this post for our company blog. You can read the rest here.

I AM THE CLIENT!

If you work in advertising/marketing this blog is a must read, its had me in stitches many a time!

So, seeing as how if you want something doing right you have to do it yourself (that’s what I tell the agency boys when I’m fixing one of their ads for them) I thought I’d be the client who does it.

Snowboarding: How to do a backside 360

These are some of the best snowboard (from snowboardaddiction.com) ‘how to’ videos that i’ve seen. I learnt these with the help of this video on my season, although this winter i’ll be nailing some bigger ones!
