It plays nicely into the networked architecture approach, the idea that your brand lives in many more places than simply the domain that you own. There’s now a whole wealth of free content management systems, social networks, bookmarking tools that you can use to promote a brand, product or service. This is something that i’m lookling at re-producing for the company I work for and something I believe all companies should map as part of their distributed content strategy.

The shows places that you can create content, along with icons as to how you can publish (RSS, Print) and the connecting lines show where you could potentially re-published that content again.

A really nice concept of having healthy snacks delivered directly to your desk. I signed up last week, you can choose from an range of different packages, ‘pre workout’, balanced diet etc

Well worth checking it out, it works out at about £3 a box. When I look at the amount I spend on food each week that really isn’t all that much! + this has the added benefits of being healthy!

To top it off the site design and usability is lovely.

Darkaudio has been created by a group of designers based in London who are also pretty big into their music. Having DJ’d with Matt (on of the founders) when I was younger I know them personally too.

It’s one of the best free music hosting sites around and has a really strong community of dance music enthusiasts engaged in it. If your a budding DJ you can submit your latest mixes to the site, they will be reviewed and are usually uploaded for the rest of the community to review and listen to. You can also download any of the mixes on there for free.

The latest version of the site has just been released and is getting better with every update. They’ve incorporated a live feed into it now with news and reviews.

The site also features a great weekly podcast, which usually is around the genre of minimal and tech, you can subscribe to it here or just find it on iTunes.

It’s running until the 31st of August and free entry. Hopefully i’ll make it down and update after that.

333 of the world’s largest domains & 111 of the most influential internet people

Apparently this is the fourth of these types of maps. It’s the first one that i’ve seen and I think it’s really cool, if only my screen could fit it all on at once! 

IA Inc have been producing these visualisations of web trends for the last 4 years and mapping around their findings around Tokyo’s underground train network.

As mentioned above the map shows the 333 most influential domains which are based on their own research around traffic, revenue, age and the parent company. The domains are then mapped on different areas of the Toyko tube network  matching place and domain vibes as much as possible. For instance a particulary vibrant and buzzy station may be the home of Twitter.

Different info about each domain is illustarted according to a number of different factors,  according to it’s height, width and position on the map. Check the map legend for more detail.  

The map also gives you an ‘at a glance’ view of the top 50 most successful domains and their associated people. 

Well worth checking out, gotta love a good visual!

I thought i’d add a quick post on this . I managed to lose my purchase login for the Fresh News support site, not having this I figured i’d be able to find out how to customise my header by Googling it pretty easy…Turns out I couldn’t, and most of the existing results that I found related back to the support forums. 

Here’s how to customise the Fresh News theme header in a nutshell;

1) Make a copy of the existing Fresh News logo the size will need to be 520 x 80 px

2) Design your logo to the spec above, save as a PNG using exactly the same logo name for the colour style your currently using. You can find this in the ‘styles’ folder within the Fresh News theme (logo.png).

3)  Open your FTP program (filezilla etc) and locate the current style that your using e.g. /freshnews theme/styles/whitey. 

4) Simply click and drag the image file over and you should be prompted to ‘overwrite existing’. Choose yes.

That should be it. I thought i’d share as it took me a few hours to figure out and there doesn’t seem to be many similar articles. It could of course be me making it hard for myself and being incredibly stupid, apologies if i’ve insulted anyone’s intelligence! There are other ways of doing this but I think this is probably the easiest. 

Tip:  Backup your original themes folder somewhere so that you can always revert back to the default settings if you need.

This is a nice way of looking at the weather forecast. Not that comprehensive in that you can only get a few days worth and a few select cities, not including Brighton  but nice design all the same!
