The First Brighton Marathon (2010)

It was the first ever Brighton Marathon at the weekend, a special day for Brighton, well organised and blessed with some awesome sunshine.

Unlike the London one it was nice to be able to cycle around much of the course, cheering mates/mrs on whilst taking some snaps. Photos from the day are below.

Well done to all that ran it, nutters!

Sticky Bits – Graffiti for geeks

I didn’t go to SXSW this year, in fact i’ve never been, but like many others I’ve been reading about the goings on and which of the new start-ups featured are creating a lot of buzz.

One of those start-ups that I caught my attention among the buzz was Sticky Bits.

Sticky Bits is a new startup. It’s a way of digitally tagging real world objects, kind of like graffiti for geeks only more socially acceptable.

I wrote this post at work, you can read the rest here.

Snowboarding in Mayrhofen 2010

I went snowboarding in Mayrhofen (Austria) last week. I wanted to go back to Austria after doing a season in St Anton before uni, which was just an amazing 6 months.

I’d probably have to say that I had one of the best ski holidays that i’ve ever been on. We booked with Crystal Ski, the snow was great, resort had great nightlife, a huge ski area, friendly people and amazing value for money. What more can you ask for!

We were also lucky enough that our trip conincided with Oakley’s Job Vid competition.

Here’s some of my pics from the break.

LBi and Bigmouthmedia Merger

This is massive news for the industry, i’ve not got much to say on it so I thought i’d take the time to make a stupid image instead. Econsultancy have a good story with the details.

Digitise my music…Yay or Nay???

I’ve been thinking about shelling out for a Spotify premium account.

I’ve always spent money on music – tapes, vinyl, CDs…i’m an album hoarder. I buy albums that I really rate and like to own the physical copy.

I favour owning physical copies for two reasons; Firstly for my own collection, I like the idea of dusting them all off when i’m a grumpy old man and showing people what ‘real’ music once sounded like. Secondly, because I used to think I owed the artist at least that in cash. But…now the industry has changed – music is no longer where the money is, artists earn most of their big bucks from touring, live shows and endorsements…blah blah blah.

If I go digital it’s a choice between two: iTunes Vs Spotify. If I brought music through iTunes I would obviously own the music but then have the added issue of storing it.

At the moment i’m leaning towards shelling out £10 a month on a Spotify premium account. That’s the equivalent of about one CD I suppose. The benefits of this being…

  • Unlimited listening access to tonnes of music
  • I can create loads of playlists and easily link to them
  • I can fill my iPhone with music and make it available offline
  • It’s much quicker and easier to manage and find new music
  • I can listen to my music on whatever machine I log my account into
  • I don’t have the ass ache of syncing my iPod and storing all the music files on a computer that I don’t own (I use my work laptop atm)

Anyone else made a decison on this recently? What do you think?

Shaun White: We are not worthy

Two videos; one of the most ridiculous half pipe that Red Bull made for Shaun White and another showing his new trick that he pulled out at the Olymipcs. He had already won at the Olympics so had nothing to lose, he decides to pop a Tomahawk in there for laughs, that’s a Double McTwist 1260.
